Walking for health

walking for health

Hello, My name is Algoma. Algoma means “valley of flowers”. I come from a big family. I have seven siblings. I grew up in the great outdoors. My childhood consisted of running around with my siblings and cousins. Ever since I was a child, I was intrigued by nature. I love flowers, the greeneries and the lakes. That is probably why I love walking so much.

I walk slowly with my dog Maka, taking in all the nature around me and being present at that time. It’s my meditation. This makes my doctor very happy. I can say, I owe my health to the walking. I walk almost every day for at least an hour in all kind of weather.

Walking has great health benefits. It is an underrated form of exercise which is ideal for people of all ages. According to Harvard health publications “Walking for 2.5 hours a week can cut your risk of heart disease by 30%.” Walking doesn’t require any kind of equipment. It’s an anytime-anywhere kind of exercise.  Research has shown that walking may reduce the risk of diabetes and cancer, lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Walking will help keep you mentally sharp and some people say that’s when they come up with their best ideas. So my friends, grab your pet or a buddy and WALK ON !
